Ruby Bailey for Exeter trainer Anthony Bullock stole the Vet’s Series Medley Final at UBET Park last night. Starting at the juicy odds of $16 this daughter of Cosmic Chief led from the boxes and crossed to lead past the 461m boxes in 5.25 and down the back straight in 12.64. Classic Spence was pressuring her on the outside with Buckle Up Zero for Leon Brazendale railing strongly to pass her through the third split and open up what looked to be a winning break. However Ruby wasn’t done with and although she looked a spent force on the home turn she mustered up again and ran over the top off Buckle Up Zero on the line to win by 1 ¼ lengths. Buckle Up Sharky ran home well to grab third in front of Stella Act who couldn’t really get a look at any clear air up the straight. The time 34.76 was average but having won a Final Oatlands owner Peter Carnes was full of praise for his little girl. “A number of us came down tonight to watch her but we weren’t expecting that” an elated Carnes said at the presentation. Anthony Bullock was again confined to the grandstand nursing a broken arm but was thrilled with her run.
Speedster Leo Getz for Richmond trainer Michael Dobson seems to have a knack of getting under the guard of punters winning the scamper over the 340m at odds of $22 and this comes after his last start where he won over the 278m at Launceston saluting at $43. This aptly named son of Lethal Weapon “Whatever Leo wants Leo Gets” was destined for retirement but has found form with Dobson who believes he is 100% all heart more than ability. Beginning brilliantly he led by a clear length within ten metres and although Nicole Howard’s Danger Duck was never far away and made a lunge on the line he managed to cling on for victory by a ½ Hd with Michael Sutcliffe’s Work It coming home very well for third. The time of 19.65 was good and maybe another win over the short distance isn’t too far away.
Quality finally counted when the classy Prescribe recorded victory number eleven from twenty six starts and now he may be able to string together some victories after finding trouble in his last two. Trained by Ted Medhurst, Prescribe had never won from box seven but that didn’t deter punters from sending him out at the prohibitive odds of $1.70. Roxy Rhythm jumped to the lead setting splits of 5.16 and 11.24 with Prescribe on her inside pushing along the rails. Finally class wore her down and although it looked like he might get checked off her heels he ran past her and opened up a winning break and recorded 26.08 on the line. Runner Up Underclass Hero was the run in the race after being checked off the heels of Prescribe early he lost a number of lengths but rattled home to get second taking ground off the leader with every stride. Kennelmate and Oaks winner Get It Right ran a creditable third a further 2 ½ lengths further back.
