After a successful Devonport Chase and Hobart Thousand series, the attention now turns to the Launceston Cup in February, and as always, Launceston hosts the regular Monday night meeting with a competitive 10-race card.
The Pat Ryan-trained Savage Victor will be looking to take a progressive step towards the Launceston Cup when he heads to the boxes as one of the shortest price favourites of the night at $1.14, when he lines up in a Grade 4 event.
Savage Victor has had four starts on the Launceston track for two wins and one placing with a best time of 28.75s, which he recorded when winning a Breeders Classic semi-final in March from box two.
He is yet to win in two starts from box one but has won two races from box three and goes into Monday night’s event on the back of a third placing behind Tommy Shelby in a Hobart Thousand heat before finishing down the track behind Hooked On Brenda in the Bob Brown Memorial.
Kennel mate Supreme Shadow will also start a short price favourite in race three and at the time of writing with Ladbrokes is the $1.22 favourite.
Supreme Shadow is having his first look at the Launceston track and has won five of his 11-starts to date.
The talented chaser did contest a Breeders Classic Qualifying heat on the Launceston track earlier this year, where he was about six lengths in front before he tore a back muscle which resulted in the dog being sidelined for seven months.
Supreme Shadow has won two of his six starts since returning to the track from that injury, the most recent win was in Devonport three starts ago, recording a time of 25.72s for the 452 metres.
He has drawn box three in Monday’s 515-metre event, a box where he has had two tries for one win and one placing.
Both Savage Victor and Supreme Shadow are a part of the Sh Avatar – See Blue’s Girl litter that was whelped in May 2018.
The litter has produced Million Dollar Chase winner Handsome Prince and Saturday night’s Wentworth Park winner Ava Wine.
Monday night’s Launceston card commences at 19:35.
