SAAB QUALITY had nothing to prove when he lined up in a C5-C7 over 2200 metres in Launceston on Sunday night but there was plenty of speculation about his future following another very impressive win.
It was the Ian Swain-trained gelding’s fifth win in success taking him from a C1 performer in late November last year to an open class pacer in the space of eight weeks.
But it was hardly surprising given the potential this horse showed last season.
Plagued by horror draws and bad luck in a few races prevented the gelded son of Saab from realizing his potential earlier in his career.
Swain has always regarded the gelding as a star act and from what he’s shown in recent weeks the sky could still be the limit.
Saab Quality’s stake earnings this season have just topped $30,000 and while he will be ineligible to contest the $30,000 Raider Stakes (sires stakes) in May because he is West Australian bred (x Saab), there will be plenty of other opportunities for him to increase his stake earnings before the season ends.
