The Jack Connolly Memorial is the feature race in Hobart on Thursday night where Mangalore trainer Gary Fahey will be hopeful consistent chaser Sacred Shadow can bounce back into the winner’s list after being placed at her last three outings.
Sacred Shadow has won 22 of her 83 starts with a further 29 placings to her credit, and with only two runners inside her from box four on Thursday night the trainer is confident of a forward showing.
“She will be looking for the rails early in the race and if she finds it, she will be very hard to beat,” said Fahey.
From box four the My Bro Fabio – Dennes Point Bitch has had 10 starts for two wins and five placings.
“She is a very smart bitch that always does her best, she really needs the rails to do her very best but has been an unlucky dog right throughout her career as she hardly ever draws where she needs to be,” said the trainer and part-owner.
“If every dog was like her, you would have no complaints that’s for sure,” added Fahey.
After Thursday night, Sacred Shadow will contest heats of the Group 3 Ladbrokes Devonport Chase on Tuesday, a series the chaser has performed well in the past, but the box draws haven’t been too kind to her this year.
“She ran third in the final last year and fourth the year prior, and she drew box eight and box seven, every time I go to Devonport that’s where she seems to draw poor the little bugger, she will struggle from the draw in that heat,” said the trainer.
Another runner from the Fahey kennel racing on Thursday night is Just Rambling in race two, The Mercury Tasbred Juvenile over 461 metres from box three.
“He needs the rails. He needs them too badly in fact because he tends to cut to them too quickly,” explained Fahey about the chaser who has won two of his eight starts.
“The draw should suit him, and I expect him to go very well,” said the trainer.
Thursday night’s 10-race card commences at 19:37 with the Hobart Thousand interstate nominations closing 3 December.
