Sanreos big improver

THE much improved mare Sanreos produced a career best performance to come from last and win the Big Park Incentive Pace at Devonport on Sunday night.

Sanreos drew the outside of the front row, which forced novice driver James Johnson to ease her out of the race but in doing so he had to settle her a distinct last and at one stage she was a good dozen metres off the second-last horse.

But Johnson allowed his charge to steadily make ground but the likelihood of winning faded when she was forced to travel three and four-wide down the back straight.

But to her credit she stuck to her task and dug deep in the home straight to grab victory in the last stride over Sweeten The Pot and the luckless Davpass.

Sanreos was coming off an equally impressive win in Launceston where she also had to show plenty of grit to win.

The mare’s owner-trainer Maurice Jarman was thrilled with the win, especially as it also earned the mare a service to Big Park Stud’s latest arrival Junior Mint.

Sanreos has improved out of sight of late but not surprising given Jarman predicted last season that she would be a late maturer.

The mare has had 14 starts for two wins and four minor placings for only $13,300 in stakes but given her new-found desire to win she should improve on that in the coming months.
