Well bred four-year-old Savoire Step delivered a sensational performance to win a strong class two handicap over 1150 metres at Tapeta Park Devonport today to signal his arrival as a potential Topline sprinter.
Savoire Step was having his second start this time in for Longford trainer Dylan Clark who predicted towards the end of his last preparation that the gelded son of Savoire Vivre would make an impact as a four-year-old.
Today jockey Anthony Darmanin allowed Savoire Step to settle near the rear of the field but when the leaders turned for home he was still at least eight lengths from the leader Our Lucky Girl.
Just Mouse emerged to stake her claim and was being hailed the winner 200 metres out but when Darmanin called on his charge for the supreme effort he responded magnificently.
Savoire Step powered home to win in a three-way photo-finish from Just Mouse and outsider Speedy Sort.
