Well-bred two-year-old Secuma broke his maiden status when he scored an effortless win over 1100 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart today.

With leading jockey Brendon McCoull in the saddle, Secuma (Umatilla-Secolo x Snippets) enjoyed a cushy run on the back of the leader Two Avenues.

When the leader went wide on the home turn McCoull urged his charge through the gap and the gelding burst clear and hit the line two lengths clear of Bailee’s Boy with Two Avenues hanging on for third over three lengths away and just in advance of Nicole’slilmiss.

It was only the gelding’s third start with his previous attempts worthy placings on the StrathAyr surface at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston.

Secuma is a half-brother to McShane’s smart sprinter Secdolrue that has enjoyed a great season.

McShane said the gelding has always shown promise and he was confident the win would come today.
