TALENTED greyhound Shanlyn Hirdy faces his biggest test since arriving in Tasmania from Victoria when he takes on a top field in the Glenorchy City Council Invitation (race 7) over 461 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart tonight (Thursday).

Shanlyn Hirdy has been a model of consistency of late winning three of his past four starts of which the last two outings on the Hobart circuit were in grades three and four company.

While this is a big step up in grade for the son of Slater-Shanlyn Supreme) the Graeme Moate-trained dog has been producing good times.

His box manners are good but he will need to be on his best behavior from box three tonight if he is to emerge triumphant.

The Debbie Cannan-trained Mojito has been competitive in similar class events of late and looms as one of the main wining chances, along with Decembrist that rattled home at the rate of knots last week when second to New Recruit in the Easter Cup final.

New recruit franked the form when he stepped out in Launceston last Monday night to run down Bluffy Lad in a heat of the Illingworth Classic.

Decembrist, prepared at Copping by Peter Phillips, is noted for having little early speed but he is a powerful finisher and should he get clear racing room from the 340-metre boxes he will be a player at the business end of proceedings.

The Ted Medhurst-trained November Digger has drawn box eight and should he mirror the effort he delivered in wining from the same box two starts back he too will make his presence felt where it counts.
