VICTORIAN owned dog Shanlyn Sparky produced a career best performance to win a grade five over 461 metres in Hobart last night.
Shanlyn Sparky overcame interference nearing the top turn and again on straightening to power his way to a half-length win over Abira with the heavily backed favourite Bank On Doom ($1.60) about two lengths astern.
The Graeme Moate-trained dog was having his ninth start in the state and this was his third win but definitely his best.
He was baulked for a run turning for home but once committed to challenging down the outside he sped clear and had enough in reserve to hold out a determined challenge from Abira.
Shanlyn Sparky is raced by the Houndog Syndicate in Melbourne.
His three wins and three minor placings in Tasmania have taken his stake earnings to about $4400, which has more than paid for his keep since crossing Bass Strait.
