In Brief
- Debbie Cannan trained chaser has won four in a row.
- Trainer elated in the improvement of her home-bred galloper.
- Siberia showing traits of dam & former talented chaser Emerald Lee.
TRACK specialist Siberia continued his affinity with Hobart on Thursday night, again dominating to take out the HGRC Members Young Star Classic Final.
Siberia, owned and trained by Debbie Cannan, has developed traits over the 461m trip, whether leading from the start or coming from behind to be a quality performer as the bold blue chaser has created a great record at the Ladbrokes Park venue winning eight races from 10 starts.
Winning four straight races in succession is a rather special feat for any racing athlete. Amongst his 15 career starts to date Siberia has taken all before him; taking out the Hobart Breeders Classic before stepping to elite company to win the Tasmanian Sprint Championship.
Jumping from the inside draw on Thursday, Siberia went toe-to-toe with Kintyre and Raleigh in the early stages before putting the paw to the floor in the run to the turn, receiving a dream rails run.
Swinging into the home straight, Siberia hit the accelerator, surging clear of his opponents to score by 2 ¼ lengths from a very tough Raleigh with Enchanted Spirit in third.
Running 25.99 in the process, Siberia notched up his 10th career victory from 15 race starts.
Trainer Debbie Cannan continues to show praise for the Barcia Bale – Emerald Lee chaser.
“Siberia just continues to get better in racing with each run,” the Mangalore trainer declared.
“I’ve never gone about holding expectations on any dog and Siberia has shocked me quite a few times in the way he performs. I think a lot of his improvement has come down to maturity and not being knocked around which allowed the dog to really grow his confidence well.”
Cannan has also noted similar traits from Emerald Lee has passed through to her talented son.
The talented daughter of Paddy’s Flame and Inbetween Days raced for 46 starts winning on 22 occasions in brilliant fashion. Notable efforts included feature race classics such as the Illingworth Classic, Tasmanian Oaks and Launceston Breeders Classic.
“Emerald Lee was a great chaser in her time, sadly retired to a spider bite,” the trainer said.
“She was a reliable beginner out of the boxes and had a great middle section. I believe that has passed on to Siberia, he just knows to place himself well in every race he runs.”
Cannan is not looking to add pressure on the dog, just happy take on one race start at a time.
“I’m just happy in the way the dog has come to hand in recent runs,” she said.
“We’ll take each run race-by-race and just see how he continues; the next step will be to get him more acquainted with Launceston and see how he shapes up. It’s a completely different track and a few more runs around there will tell if he can adapt further in his ability.”
Watch Siberia (1) produce a brilliant performance in the HGRC Members Young Star Classic Final.
