IT isn’t rare for siblings to be racing against each other but it is a bit quirky for a two-year-old and three-year-old brother and sister to be making their debuts in the same race.

Such will be the case when the Royston Carr-trained three-year-old gelding Rest Upon (Incumbent-Horkin’s Nancy) and the David and Scott Brunton-trained two-year-old filly Midnight Tears tackle the first race on the seven-event program at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart tomorrow.

It is a 2YO and upwards maiden plate over 1100 metres and the siblings have been to the trials recently and both have performed well.

Rest Upon was second in a trial on May 27  at Elwick to Lord of the Lodge that wasn’t far away when he stepped out for his first start in Tasmania last week.

Rest Upon was third at his only other trial in March behind Wonzee that won at her only two starts before being sent for a spell.

Midnight Tears was an impressive trial winner against her own age (2YO) in Hobart on a slow track (inside grass) last week scoring by over two lengths from Just Run and Geegees Classicboy.

It was a much improved performance by Midnight Tears that also was nominated for the Devonport meeting last Sunday with Brunton opting to save her for Hobart.

Midnight Tears has drawn gate three while Rest Upon will start from barrier 11.

The first four races of the Hobart meeting will be broadcast on Sky 1 with the remaining three races on Sky 2.
