APPRENTICE jockey Sigrid “Siggy” Carr registered her first race win when she guided the Michael Voss-trained Rose Of Innocence to victory in the Balmoral On York Maiden/Class 1 Plate over 1600 metres at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston last night.
It was only Carr’s 14th ride and while it was on an outsider ($21.30) there was plenty of support for the four-year-old mare that firmed in betting from $30 that was on offer about 10 minutes before race start time.
Carr had Rose Of Innocence handily placed soon after the start from a wide draw (barrier 15) but she was forced to go forward earlier than expected for fear of being trapped very wide when most were thinking about making their runs 500 metres from home.
When the field straightened for the long run home Rose Of Innocence burst clear of the pack and looked set to win by a big margin.
She hit the line over a length clear of Seal The Plan that came from well back in the field with Palata Vista a clear third.
