TALENTED two-year-old Siorca could not have been more impressive in breaking his maiden status in Launceston two weeks ago but tomorrow night he faces his toughest test when he goes up against the in-form filly Gee Gees Top Notch in the feature race on the card the $30,000 Alfa Bowl over 1100m.
Gee Gees Top Notch, prepared by John Luttrell at Brighton, has won her past two in Hobart over 900m and 1000m respectively in which Siorca has been running on to be placed.
But trainer Barry Campbell is confident Siorca can turn the tables on his southern rival over the slightly longer trip.
“Siorca is a tough little two-year-old that thrives on racing and the further he goes the more he likes it,” Campbell said after the gelding won in Launceston two weeks ago.
“This horse will go on and contest the two main features – the Elwick Stakes (1100m) and Gold Sovereign (1200m) and I expect him to be very competitive,” he said.
Tomorrow night’s race has the potential to determine the early favourite for both of those $100,000 Listed races during the Betfair Tasmanian Summer Racing Carnival with the Elwick Stakes to be run on Hobart Cu day (February 09) and the Gold Sovereign in Launceston on Launceston Cup day February 25.
