Brighton trainer Royston Carr and one of his long-time owners Dr John Burke have enjoyed a lot of success over the years and the latest galloper to show enough to suggest that success will grow enormously is two-year-old Sir Joey.
Sir Joey could not have made a more impressive debut.
The gelded son of Strada-Kats Clause was only fairly away from gate seven and settled near the rear of the field.
Jockey Stephen Maskiell urged his charge to get into the race at the 600-metre mark but the gelding was still nearer to last turning for home.
But Sir Joey grabbed the bit and charged home to score by over a length for what was clearly a star-like effort.
Carr was delighted with the win as was owner Dr Burke who said he gave the gelding no hope of winning 500 metres from home.
Sir Joey is a full brother to this season’s Tasmanian Guineas-winning Master John.
