IN-FORM Tasmanian greyhound Senor Slamma struck gold at the box draw for next week’s $105,000 Tattsbet Hobart Thousand final when he snared the outside box for the Group 1 race that will deliver $75,000 to the winner.
Senor Slamma, prepared by Gary Johnson at Leith, won his heat from box eight and it will give him his best chance to emerge triumphant in what will clearly be the biggest test of his career.
The box draw was held at the Hobart Thousand Dinner at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last night.
The other Tasmanians in the final field of eight are Breaker’s Tip that drew well in box three but Hellyeah Bolt will have to start from box six.
Reigning Melbourne Cup winner Dyna Villa is likely to start favourite as he drew well in box two and should he behind like he did to win his heat last Thursday night he will be very hard to beat.
The least experienced of the eight finalists is Big Ticket but he was the fastest heat winner (25.90) and he has drawn the coveted one box but it will be his inexperience t the top level that might prevent him from winning.
The Robert Britton-trained Above All produced the run of th night last Thursday to win his heat after missing the start badly he again found trouble getting through the field but powered home to score impressively.
The Thousand final will be race eight on the 10-event card.
