TALENTED greyhound Senor Slamma made it six wins in succession when he led throughout to take out the invitation race over 452 metres at Devonport yesterdays.
The Gary Johnson-trained dog has never raced better and while he holds this form he looms as a genuine Hobart Thousand contender.
Senor Slamma showed promise in Victoria where he began his racing career but he has blossomed since crossing Bass Strait.
He won on debut at Shepparton in October last year but his form went sough following the debut win.
His former trainer gave him a break and just prior to him being dispatched to Johnson he won again at Shepparton.
His first start in Tasmania resulted in a last from box one at Devonport but he showed his true colours when he won at his next start at the same track from box five.
He again ran last from box one at Devonport and the next time he drew he inside alley he finished fifth.
Yesterday was the first time he has won wearing the red vest but given the way he is racing it wouldn’t matter what box he drew, the son of El Grand Senor would most likely win in any race in Tasmania over the sprint distances.
His box manners have improved enormously and no doubt Johnson is eyeing the Group 1 Hobart Thousand that is only 10 weeks away.
