SMART three-year-old Snippetee Bee confirmed her status as one of the state’s most promising fillies when she scored a narrow but convincing win in the Happy Birthday Craig Newitt benchmark 68 handicap over 1200 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart yesterday.

Snippetee Bee, prepared by Charlie Goggin & Luella Meaburn, trailed the leader Artie’s Spur to the home turn but when rider Stephen Maskiell eased her off the fence to challenge she ran home strongly.

Artie’s Spur refused to give in but the filly was too strong at the business end of the race.

It was Snippetee Bee’s first start since early December last year and as her mother Maggie Bee had performed well on rain affected tracks connections are setting her for a winter campaign that could include an interstate trip.
