TALENTEDÂ sprinter Sound Bar notched another impressive win on the synthetic at Spreyton today to give his trainer Adam Trinder even more confidence about heading the four-year-old towards a tilt at the Newmarket Handicap next season.
Trinder’s aim is to keep Sound Bar’s rating at a reasonable level so as to get into the Newmarket with a light weight.
This latest win was courtesy of a copybook ride from stable apprentice Boris Thornton who send the gelding forward to lead but when challenged by Baldez he allowed that horse to cross to the front but almost immediately popped off the fence to sit at the leader’s girth.
When Thornton called on Sound Bar ($1.70) his mount for the big effort he slipped into another gear and went on to win comfortably from Jakcorijim ($5.20) that ran on from beyond midfield on the home turn with Baldez ($6.10) hanging on for third ahead of The Producer ($8) that looked as a winning chance in the home straight but faded on his run close to home.
Sound Bar has had 14 starts for seven wins and three minor placings with this latest win taking his career stake earnings to just under $77,000.
Trinder said he would target a couple of the sprint races during the winter carnival at Spreyton in August, which is clearly the gelding’s favourite track having notched six of his seven wins on the synthetic surface.
