In Brief

  • Ideal World can lead if he brings his good standing start manners.
  • Pacer is likely to stay for country cups.
  • Bain confident of success on Trotters Cup.

South Australian trainer Aaron Bain will be chasing feature race success in Launceston on Saturday night with a runner in both feature races.

Bain prepares Ideal World in the McKillop Insurance Brokers Tassie Golden Apple and Godofthunder in the Launceston Trotters Cup.

Ideal World finished third in his heat of the Tassie Golden Apple last start behind Ryley Major were Ideal World uncharacteristically galloped away.

“It was a good run, but I was disappointed he galloped away,” said Aaron Bain.

“I sent him down for the standing starts as he generally thrives under those conditions, but he tried to rush away and ended up settling back with Ryley Major so from there we were never going to beat him,” added the Gawler based trainer.

“Had he been able to lead it may have a different story if he steps this week, he has the speed to be in front,” Bain explained about the winner of 15-races who will be driven by Alex Ashwood.

The Tassie Golden Apple may not be the last we see of Ideal World in the state.

“If all goes well I see there is a couple of country cups in the next few weeks so he may stay there and then come home,” said his trainer.

Bain will be chasing success in the Launceston Trotters Cup with Godothunder who arrived in the state on Thursday.

The winner of five races comes into the race with two placings in country cups in Victoria in his past three starts.

“He was just set to run around in the free-for-all races in Adelaide but they haven’t stood up, so I sent him to my Victorian stable,” explained Bain.

“He ran a good second in the Stawell Trotters Cup and then we went to the Gunbower Cup before racing at Melton,” said Bain.

“If he brings his Melton form last week, he will be hard to beat,” added the trainer.

That last start effort at Melton was a fourth placing in a $20,000 event where he was defeated 7.4-metres in a mile rate of 1m 67.8s.

“He is equal third on the Marios Idol Trotting Championship points table for the country cups in Victoria so he will stay go back there and concentrate on the country cups over there,” said the South Australian trainer.

The winner of the Marios Idol Trotting Championship receives $25,000 on a 5-3-2 points score across all country cups in Victoria.

Alex Ashwood will also take the reins on the five-year-old gelding

Bain has had plenty of success on the state, sending a number of horses to leading trainer Ben Yole who has been overseeing Bains Tasmanian raid.
