In Brief
- 25 thoroughbred trials run for the week after Friday.
- Scott Brunton trials horses for the first time since racing stoppage.
- Trainers Premiership looks a race in two.
If the number of trials this week is any indication, the return thoroughbred meeting on 14 June in Launceston will be full of capacity fields.
11 trials will be run in Hobart Friday, bringing the total for the week to 25 after 14 were held in Launceston on Wednesday.
Wednesday’s trials featured almost exclusively northern based horses while it will be the opposite on Friday as trainers based in the south look to prepare their animals for a racing return.
Of interest will be the team of the state’s current Premiership leading trainer Scott Brunton who has 16 accepted across the 11 trials including impressive last start winners Kuroset and Born Magic.
Kuroset will step out in the second trial of the morning which includes Gee Gee Flash Too (main picture) who also won at his last race start. The pair have shown promise early in their careers and many punters will have been sweating on the next race start after their respective recent wins.
Brunton is yet to trial any of his horses at the previous three trial sessions held but entered the enforced racing stoppage in great form, preparing five winners at the last Hobart meeting on 29 March.
Brunton’s 41 winners for the current season has him seven clear of Leon, Dean & Trent Wells in second place and they appear the only ones within striking distance for the Premiership given there are seven meetings scheduled before the end of July.
All of Friday’s trials will be run over 900 metres on what should be a good rated surface commencing at 10:00.
Replays of all trials will be available on the Tasracing website.
