Lightly raced three-year-old pacer Spot Nine made up for a string of minor placings with a brilliant win at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston on Wednesday night.
The Life Sign gelding was having his first start for Bridport trainer Grant Hodges and was coming off a near last of 12 at his previous outing for his former trainer.
Spot Nine was well backed to improve with punters sending the three-year-old out at $3.50 and second-elect behind the favourite Prisonbreak ($2.80).
The gelding was well handled by Erin Hollaway who is chasing her second female driver’s premiership.
Hollaway is second on the premiership table with 21 wins and three behind Natalee Emery.
Spot Nine has had only 10 starts for two wins and three minor placings for just over $10,000 in stakes.
The gelding was bred by Lombo Standardbreds Pty Ltd and is owned and raced by the jackpot Racing Syndicate of which Noel Blake is manager.
All of the gelding’s good form was last season which netted him his win and three placings.
