STACY ANN finally repaid her connections for their patience when she scored an erratic but impressive win in the Sally’s Ride Maiden over 1420 meters at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston last night.

With Shuji Amano in the saddle, Stacy Ann made the most of a wide draw, firstly by being loaded last that avoided any complications at he start and then she raced wide in the best part of the track for most of the journey.

It was only her fifth start but it seemed like an eternity for her to finally win a race.

Trainer Terry Evans confirmed she has been a “nightmare” to train.

“If all horses were as difficult as her then there wouldn’t be many trainers,” Evans said.

“I am usually a bit crooked on wide barrier draws but tonight it was a blessing in disguise when she drew a wide gate.
“The mare spent some time withy Peter Moody (at Caulfield) but he sent her back (to Tasmania) most likely because of her antics,” Evans said.

Stacy Ann raced wide throughout and just when it looked like being a matter of how far, the mare ducked out sharply in the home straight forcing Amano to stop riding and straighten the daughter of Street Cry-I’m A Singa.

The mare is owned and raced by the Lynrowan Stud syndicate of which Bob Lynch is manager.

Stacy Ann hit the line a long neck clear of Stockbroker that made its run at the same time as the winner but the runner-up’s rider James Nevin fired in a protest claiming interference caused by the winner had cost him the race.

Stewards took no time to dismiss the objection.

Evans said he would peruse the racing calendar to find a suitable race for Stacy Ann’s next assignment.
