THE success of Grenville Stud’s stallion parade at Whitemore last Saturday can best be gauged from the number of breeders who booked their mares into the stallions that were paraded before the 100 plus who attended the event.
Studmaster Graeme McCulloch confirmed today that at least 10 mares have been booked to be served by Grenville’s new arrival Mawingo that is the first Group 1-wijnning sire to stand in Tasmania.
Mawingo was European bred and won a Listed race at two in Germany before venturing to Australia where he won the Group 1 Doomben Cup (2000m) for trainer Anthony Freedman and later ravelled to Singapore where he placed at Group 1 level.
Those who attended the stallion parade were suitably impressed by Mawingo and Grenville’s other resident stallion Cardinal Virtue also secured bookings.
“It was a great day and I was particularly pleased with the numbers that rolled up to see the new stallion,” McCulloch said.
“Bookings also were good so it looks like Mawingo will have a decent book in his first season at Grenville,” he said.
McCulloch also paraded his Magnus weanling that is a half-brother to recent Australian Derby winner Mongolian Khan that was bred by Grenville Stud from aged mare Centafit.
The weanling colt will be the star attraction at Magic Millions Weanling Sale on the Gold Coast late next month.
