TASMANIAN pacer Star Chamber booked a ticket to Victoria to play with the big boys of the harness racing industry when he outgunned a star class field in the Smithawards Hobart Pacing Cup final over 3060 metres at Tattersall’s Park tonight.
The Nathan Ford-trained and owned gelding came from near last in the back straight the last time to score by almost seven metres from outsider Benediction with Sky Tower a closing third after facing the breeze.
Star Chamber emerged as a potential Group 1 contender when he won the Tasmania Cup tow starts back and with a Hobart pacing Cup heat and final now added to his impressive list of triumphs he is likely to be given the chance to test his skill against the best within a week.
Ford said the Shepparton Cup could be the gelding’s next mission and if he does follow that path to the Hunter Cup he will clash with an all-star line-up.
