WESLEY Vale trainer Glenn Stevenson will aim his promising three-year-old filly Flash Al Moon at the Thousand Guineas following her narrow but impressive win at The TOTE Racing Centre at Mowbray last Thursday night.
Flash Al Moon had to work hard early from a wide barrier but had enough speed to cross the field after travelling 200 metres.
With Victorian fly-in jockey Cameron Quilty aboard the filly settled well and after booting clear on the home turn she had enough in reserve to stave off the fast-finishing Drummond
“She is a strong little filly with a bit of developing to do but to win a maiden and then come out and do it at both ends to win a class one at her next start suggests she has above average ability,” Stevenson said.
“We are hoping she can run a strong 1600 metres and if I’m right she’ll be very competitive in a race such as the Thousand Guineas around Christmas,” he said.
Flash Al Moon won her maiden in Launceston on September 18 and in between races she hadn’t done a lot of work.
“I was probably a bit soft on her the week leading up to the race. She only did some pace work so I told Cameron (Quilty) that she could be suspect over the last little bit if he had to work to find the lead and that’s pretty much how it panned out.”
“But to her credit she showed her toughness and kept finding when it counted,” he said.
Flash Al Moon also was the only three-year-old in the class one line-up, so to win against older and more experienced rival’s added further credence to the win.
