Racing Services Tasmania will use social media to allow the community greater access to information about the thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing.
Minister for Racing, Bryan Green, said today that Racing Services Tasmania will help keep people informed by providing the latest racing information via Twitter.
“As access to the racing product improves, there is a greater expectation from participants and punters that they will be provided with ‘real time’ information,” Mr Green said.
“As part of their role, stewards are regularly required to provide information prior to and during the conduct of a race meeting.
“Such information generally relates to last minute changes to track conditions, jockey and driver changes.
“Stewards currently relay this type of information to the race caller who then makes an announcement over the public address system and via commercial radio when possible.”
“This together with other information including appeals, stewards’ reports and extension of nominations would now also be distributed via Twitter.
“Twitter is a quick and easy way of communicating with people – it’s virtually instantaneous and is literally a click of a button away.
“Racing Services Tasmania is very customer focussed and the move to keep people informed with the latest racing information via Twitter is testament to that.”
