LONGFORD trainer John Blacker has some decent long range plans for his two-year-old Strathalbyn following the well-bred gelding’s last-stride win in a 2YO and upwards maiden over 1150 metres at Spreyton today.

Stable rider Georgie Catania had Strathalbyn settled just beyond midfield on the fence and he was still well off the leaders Lanilew and Armagonnagettem turning for home.

But when Catania called on the gelded son of Haradasun for the big effort in the home straight he powered home to grab victory in the shadows of the post to score by a neck from Lanilew with Armagonnagettem a nose away third.

Strathalbyn was resuming from a spell having had only one start for a sixth in the first two-year-old race of the season in Hobart won by the Barry Campbell-trained Specialist.

The gelding was purchased at the 2013 Tasmanian Magic Millions Yearling Sale and has always shown Blacker above average ability.

Listen to what trainer John Blacker ha to say about Strathalbyn’s maiden win at Spreyton today.
