The Adam Trinder-trained Supalopo clinched a berth in the Group 3 Ladbrokes Launceston Cup with a brilliant victory in the Armidale Stud Sydeston Night Cup in Launceston on Wednesday night.
It was Supalopo’s fifth win in succession and winning the Night Cup earned the gelding ballot-free entry into the Launceston Cup.
Rider Anthony Darmanin had the gelded son of Needs Further settled worse than midfield off a solid tempo set by Our Declaration with White Hawk and Queen La Diva close enough to make an impact.
Queen La Diva and White Hawk surged to the front turning for home, but when Darmanin hit the go button, Supalopo ($1.70) hauled in the leaders and went on to win comfortably from Queen La Diva.
Trinder said he will wait and see how the gelding pulls up before making any form decision on progressing to the Launceston Cup.
