SWEET GINGER BROWN has been something of an enigma around the Charlie Goggin-Luella Meaburn stable for some time but at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart last Sunday he decided to put on a show.
With Rhonda Mangan in the saddle, Sweet Ginger Brown kept finding over the concluding stages to win in a photo-finish and at the good price of $19.20.
The Gonski gelding had to endure a relatively tough run racing three and four-wide for most of the 1600-metre journey but he defied that to score in a head-bobbing finish with Ocean Star that was being hailed the winner close to home.
Sweet Ginger Brown showed a lot of promise early on winning on debut and following up with a minor placing but it has since been mostly downhill.
Goggin admitted that the gelding had been disappointing after such an encouraging start to his racing life.
