- US sire Superior Product making waves.
Lightly raced youngster Recall enhanced his growing reputation with an impressive upset effort in the Custom Resources & Recruitment Tasmanian Breeders Classic Final (452m) in Devonport on Tuesday afternoon.
Victory in the prestigious race was also a maiden feature win for Brighton breeder/trainer Jack Jury.
“I’m just over the moon, it was a brilliant win,” said an emotional Jack Jury following the race.
“I was concerned that Recall was heading into the Breeders underdone on experience, each run showed he was getting better, it was a massive step in class going up into strong field for the final.”
The son of US sire Superior Product and Princess Roman impressed on-lookers in his qualifying heat win before stepping out in his first race day debut to finish a gallant second behind Vintage Fame.
Beaten just a length in his semi saw Recall make the $5,050 Tasbred feature at the odds of $31, in a race full of class gallopers with Highland Chief and Wynburn Sheean joint favourites in betting.
Recall began on strong terms with the fast-paced Highland Chief at the start, putting on a strong speed battle towards the top turn with the youngster getting the upper hand on his rival, kicking well clear.
Putting his inexperience aside, Recall was all class coming away to win by three lengths in 25.65.
Highland Chief finished a dominant second with Wynburn Sheean flashing home late to grab third.
“The Breeders Classic came up so quick and having Recall ready was a big effort,” the trainer added.
“It was ensuring to know the dog had something to work with ability wise. I’ve never made a Breeders’ Final as a trainer, making the semis was a huge result; I couldn’t be prouder of this dog.”
Jury along with his wife Sherilyn already plan to use Superior Product for their next brood bitch.
Superior Product (Kc and All – USS Memory) was a terrific performer on track in the USA winning 50 of his 82 starts with great feature classic wins in the Dubuque Inaugural and King & Queen Stakes.
