HEATS of the Tasmania Gold Cup are the feature races on a solid 10-event greyhound card at UBET Park Hobart tonight.

With the Hobart Thousand only six weeks away the state’s best sprinters are in the process of making their mark prior to the Group 1 race that comprises heats into a final and carries prizemoney of $75,000 to the winner.

Tonight’s two Gold Cup heats boast many of the stars that are expected to line up in the Hobart Thousand series.

The first heat (race six) sees trainer Ted Medhurst with two of the top fancies in Lorus Time (1) and the very consistent Star Chamber (3) with either one expected to start favourite.

But Hello Ay Jay (5) and Tecoma Emily (4) have been in great form and if either one crossed to lead it could be an interesting outcome.

The second heat includes Tasmania’s representative in the National Sprint Championship in Breaker’s Tip from the Gary Fahey kennel.

Breaker’s Tip comes off a fifth at his most recent outing but there were genuine excuses with interference costing him dearly and clear running should see him emerge triumphant.

The Ted Medhurst kennel will play a dominant role in the outcome with his two kennel stars Prescribe (2) and Lillycette (6) sure to make their presence felt.

The first four placegetters in each of the two heats will progress to next week’s final.
