The two-year-old features are almost here, with the first heats of the Sweepstakes headlining Sunday night’s Hobart card.

Further heats are scheduled for 25 August before the $27,500 finals on 10 September.

Also, this week there will be Friday night racing in Launceston.

After being runner-up in the Beautide, Mickey Oh will have his first interstate start when he contests the Singo at Menangle in Sydney’s southwest on Saturday night.

The Stars

Mouth Hunter – continued the excellent recent run of the John and Charlie Castles combination when she motored home late to take out the King Fillies & Mares in Launceston on Sunday. It was a blanket finish with only a short half-head between the first three placegetters.

Killarney Dance – former Kiwi mare will have a freshen-up after taking her record to four wins and five placings since arriving in the care of Michael Laugher. The daughter of A Rocknroll Dance led all the way to win by 19.6m on Sunday.

Hy Leinvincible – is a former Victorian that has had an injury-plagued career and is now three from three since joining the Rohan Hillier stable, including an all-the-way win in 1m 58.4s on Sunday when scoring in a 60 to 69 rating race.

Sneaky Peak – is another newcomer to the state that hit the ground running and is now two from two since crossing Bass Straight after winning by 15.6m in an up to rating 44 event in 1m 58.5s.

Art Huntsman – it was great to see Dick Eaves back in the winner’s list for the first time since the 2019/20 season, after having limited starters, with this gelded son of Huntsville winning second up from a spell.
