The Ben Yole trained James Dean claimed another Country Cup when he broke the track record scoring in Saturday’s Carrick Park Pacing Cup.
A large crowd was on hand for the Cup and the Tasmanian Harness Racing Yearling sale that was held during the program once again being a successful sale.
Sunday we went to Hobart where Ben Yole continued his bumper start to the season with a training quartet.
This week racing is in Devonport on Friday night and then in Hobart on Sunday evening.
The Stars
James Dean – claimed another Country Cup with a track record performance to score in Saturday’s Carrick Park Pacing Cup. The Ben Yole prepared pacer bounced straight to the lead and was inclined to over race in front before digging deep over the concluding stages to score.
Call Me Hector – bounced back into the winner’s list when leading all the way to score in Sunday’s fast class race in Hobart.
Rock The Casbolt – the Deborah Williams-trained pacer continued his good form when he scored with his second win of the season.
Troy McDonald – not only did he claim Saturday’s Carrick Park Pacing Cup but he also continued his terrific form with a double in Hobart including Nine Diamonds who was brilliant first-up from a break.
Michael Laugher – had a day out at Carrick Park with a training treble on the card, courtesy of three Brilliant drives by Rohan Hillier.

Trial File
Hobart – Monday evening
Cool Water Paddy returned to the trialing track with a 2.2-metre win.
Driver Ricky Duggan settled the Juanita McKenzie-trained gelding behind the leader before being eased one away from the pegs at the top of the home straight to defeat the early leader Still Hungover in a mile rate of 2m 6.1s for the 2090-metre trip with the last half ran in 57.2s.
Other winners included; A Good Red (2m 6.7s), Kissing Game (2m 6.5s) and Rocknovertime (2m 4.7s).
Devonport – Monday evening
Wave the Hat was first-up for the Ben Yole stable and recorded an impressive trial win on Monday.
The four-year-old gelding was taken straight to the early lead by driver Troy McDonald and was untroubled to score a six-metre win in a slick mile rate for the trials of 2m 2.2s for 1930 metres.
The other trial was won by North Star Lad in 2m 03.5s.

Week Ahead
Friday: The Devonport Harness Racing Club stages a seven-race card that gets underway at 17:54. The meeting will be shown on Sky Racing 2 and TasracingTV.
Saturday: The metropolitan harness meeting for the week in Victoria will be held at Terang on Saturday night where Ryley Major will go around at 22:22 and will be driven by Tasmanian born Jack Laugher.
Sunday: Hobart is the venue for a nine-race card that commences at 18:00 where the Max Pulford Memorial Free For All is the main race on the card. Race one will be televised on Sky Racing 2 with the remainder of the card on Sky Racing 1, all races will be shown on TasracingTV.
Monday: Trials will be held at Carrick Park commencing at 18:00.
