TASMANIAN-OWNED three-year-old pacer Delightful Christian has started her Group 1 journey on a high by leading all the way to win the $175,000 3YO Yearling Sale Championship Classic in New Zealand.

Delightful Christian won the $150,000 2YO Fillies Jewels last season only to have the race win put on hold and has subsequently become the subject of a court case that is due to be heard in New Zealand next month.

The filly is owned and raced by the Rattray Family Trust along with Wayne McLaughlin and the trust of his late wife Wendy.

Delightful Christian is being aimed at a few Group 1 events in New Zealand this season and part-owner Barrie Rattray, who is one of Tasmania’s leading trainer-breeders, is hoping or more success.

The filly finished third in a feature race heat last Saturday in which she had no luck early.

Delightful Christian was purchased for $92,000 at the 2011 New Zealand Yearling sale.
