The quest to find Tasmania’s galloper of the decade starts with arguably the state’s two best performers in the last 12-18 months. It’s fair to say the talent at the top end of Tasmania is elite with these two and many will be awaiting their return to racing when travel restrictions are lifted.

Mystic Journey

Mystic Journey wins the 2019 Thomas Lyons in Hobart.

  • Brown or Black Mare
  • 18 starts
  • 11 wins
  • 1 minor placing
  • $3,743,600 prizemoney
  • First start: December 2017
  • Trainer: Adam Trinder

Tasmania’s only Group 1 winner and in less than 20 career starts she’s approaching a staggering $4 million in career prizemoney. She announced herself as a superstar on the national stage by winning the Australian Guineas and All-Star Mile in successive starts last year, and her recent fifth in the William Reid Stakes suggested that more feature wins may be in store for the mare.

The Inevitable

The Inevitable powers to the line to easily win the 3YO Trophy in Launceston.

  • Bay Gelding
  • 12 starts
  • 8 wins
  • 1 minor placing
  • $707,775 prizemoney
  • First start: June 2018
  • Trainer: Scott Brunton

The 4YO has only tasted defeat once on Tasmanian soil which was on debut and since then has established himself as a superstar in his own right. He has won three times in Victoria including the CS Hayes Stakes and his biggest achievement was winning the Group 2 Silver Eagle on route to an unplaced run in the inaugural Golden Eagle. The prospect of The Inevitable and Mystic Journey meeting again under race conditions is a mouthwatering one for all Tasmanian racing fans.
