Tasracing Chief Executive Officer Gary Lottering has tendered his resignation, Chairman Brian Speers announced today.

Mr Speers said Mr Lottering had given notice in accordance with his employment contract and would step down from his CEO role on 31 August 2012.

Mr Speers said Tasracing would commence a search for an appropriate replacement as soon as possible.

Mr Lottering said he had enjoyed his 10 years working in senior management positions in the Tasmanian racing industry, culminating in the CEO role at Tasracing, but it was now time to move on to new challenges.

Mr Speers said Mr Lottering had done an excellent job as CEO, and thanked him for his commitment during a challenging period for the industry.

“Gary has overseen the establishment of the company and then managed the business through significant industry and wagering market changes,” he said.

“Since Tasracing was established, the racing and wagering landscape has changed significantly through the impact of privatisation, new technology and enhanced competition from non-racing sectors, particularly sports betting.

“During his time as CEO, Tasracing has achieved a number of significant milestones, including international market expansion, the development of Tapeta Park at Spreyton and commencement of night thoroughbred racing in Launceston.”

Mr Lottering arrived in Tasmania from Zimbabwe in May 2002 to join TOTE Tasmania where he worked in various senior management positions, including Chief Racing Officer from mid-2007. He was appointed Tasracing CEO in January 2009 following the State Government’s decision to separate the wagering and racing entities.
