TWO of Tasmania’s star greyhounds Damek and Tombstone Jack have made the top 22 nominees for the $100,000 winner-take-all Topgun to be run at The Meadows next month.

A list of 22 invitees for the Group 1 TOPGUN at The Meadows – which includes the fastest sprinters this country has to offer – has been announced, with the final field to be finalised on track on October 8.

With less than four weeks to go before the running of one of Australia’s premier greyhound events, trainers across the country will be fine-tuning their charges in the hope of making the final cut for the famous 525-metre extravaganza on October 23.

Melbourne Greyhound Racing Club manager Marg Long announced that greyhounds not listed in the group of 22 (see below) can still make their way into the final during the coming weeks.

“Obviously the MGRA has already got an amazing list of invitees together, but we do reserve the right to extend late invitations, and there are still three greyhounds that have been put up (late) for consideration,” Long said.

The list of 22 consists of nine greyhounds from New South Wales, eight from Victoria, two from Tasmania and one each from Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia.

Damek ios owned and was bred in Tasmania by Peter and June Phillips, while Tombstone Jack, thsat represdented Tasmania at the National Soprint Championshiup in SA last month, is owmned in Queensland but trained in Tasmania by Stuart genge.

With great entertainment already locked in for adults and children alike, The Meadows is expected to draw one of the biggest crowds of the year on October 23.

Along with the running of the Group 1 TOPGUN, heats of the Group 2 Hume Cup over 600 metres will also attract the country’s best middle-distance performers on the night.
