In Brief
- Telfer hitting good form.
- Trainer believes nothing to worry about over recent scratching.
- 10 race card commences at 19:25.
Flowery Gully trainer Michael Louth has several chances across the 10-race card in Hobart on Thursday night including the in-form Telfer in the fourth race on the program, the Follow Us On Facebook Grade 5 over 340 metres.
The Fabregas – Chandalar dog has won six of his 33 starts, with three of those victories coming in the chasers last three outings, the most recent in Launceston on 3 August.
“He is a dog that has always had it (the ability), but has never really given it,” said his trainer Michael Louth.
The trainer believes box two suits Thursday but given the short run to the first corner from the 340-metre boxes, the trainer hopes Telfer can produce his good box manners early.
“It is a 340-metre race where you do have to jump from the inside, which he normally does, as you can get caught short as it is on the run into the first turn and they can come down the track on you,” said Louth.
“He is a railer, his not mad as he won’t crash or anything like that, like he won in Hobart two starts ago out in box eight where he ran straight until he could get across them, he is a smart dog like that,” added the trainer.
Telfer was scratched from a race in Launceston on 10 August with Louth saying that the withdrawal is “absolutely nothing to worry about” Thursday.
Other runners from the Louth Kennel contesting Thursday night’s program include Kiandra in the first leg of the quaddie where she starts from box one.
The Paw Licking – Hollyheath bitch is yet to win in six tries on the Hobart track and finished fourth to Blackwood Vegas on 21 July in Devonport.
“She should have finished closer, she got plenty of interference early, anyway that’s racing, from box one she is a show, if she jumps, but it is a hard field,” said her trainer.
Lupin lines up from box five in the Thanks Brighton Footy Club Maiden, the chaser has run one second in his 21 start career, and that was here in Hobart two starts ago over the 340 metres, and steps out to the 461-metre trip Thursday.
“He could run a place, he is a bit of a plodder, but he is honest, he can run a place in that field,” Louth said.
In the final race of the night, the Louth kennel is represented in box five by Yellow Knife, who was placed in Launceston on Monday.
“He had a run on Monday night, where he wouldn’t have beat the winner, but he should have finished a lot closer, he nearly fell on the first corner,” said the Flowery Gully trainer.
“If he jumps and leads, he should go close,” he added.
Thursday night’s card will be shown on TasracingTV and Sky Racing 1 with the first of 10 races scheduled to jump at 19:25.
Watch Telfer notch up a winning hat-trick in Launceston on 3 August.
