PROMISING stayer Temajim is likely to embark on a hit-and-run mission in Victoria following an impressive win KPMG Benchmark 78 Handicap over 2100 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Sunday.
Temajim had to dig deep to win the race but it was a typically gutsy effort by the five-year-old that is earning a reputation as a dour staying type.
It was the gelding’s second win from five starts this preparation, having been successful on his home track, at Spreyton three starts prior.
He was well ridden by Victorian fly-in jockey Anthony Darmanin who had the son of Clangalang well placed throughout and always within striking distance of the leaders.
Can Get Thirsty led the field into the home straight and rider David Pires had that horse aimed at the outside fence in search of what many riders considered the better going on what was rated a Heavy 10 surface.
But just when it looked as if Can Get Thirsty was going to win Temajim refused to wilt and fought back to win by a half-length.
Temajim has had two preparations in the care of Trinder who says he will look for a suitable race in Melbourne for the gelding as well as a race for his other promising stayer Royal Miswaki.
