THE CLEANER will have his final fast gallop at Longford on Saturday in readiness for his next Group 1 assignment in Melbourne.
The Mick Burles-trained gelding will tackle the $1 million Group 1 Australian Cup over 2000 metres at Flemington on Saturday week.
The gelding was a star in the spring winning the Group 2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes and Group 3 JRA Cup before ending his Melbourne campaign with a gallant third in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes over 1600m.
He returned to Tasmania after an unsuccessful trip to Western Australia where he finished unplaced in the Group 1 Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot.
The Cleaner had his first start this preparation in last week’s weight-for-age George Adams Plate over 1600 metres in which he finished a game second to star three-year-old Admiral that will tackle the Group 1 Australian Guineas at Flemington on Saturday.
Burles said The Cleaner will do fast work at Longford on Saturday morning after which he will be given light workouts until he leaves for Melbourne on the Spirit of Tasmania on Thursday week.
Listen to what trainer Mick Burles had to say about The Cleaner’s progress since his first-up effort in the George Adams.
