TASMANIA’S W. S. Cox Plate aspirant The Cleaner has made a great start to this year’s race by drawing favourably in barrier two for Saturday’s $3.5 million Group 1 event over 2040 metres at Moonee Valley.

The Cleaner drew poorly last year starting from a near outside gate but the barrier gods were smiling on the horse’s jockey Noel Callow who was responsible for snaring the ideal gate at the official barrier draw in Melbourne today.

The bad barrier in the 2014 race cost The Cleaner but the turnaround could make the difference between winning and finishing beyond midfield which was the case last year.

Trainer Mick Burles said he could not be more pleased with his stable star’s draw and confirmed the eight-year-old would go into the race at his peak.

Listen to what trainer Mick Burles had to say about the barrier draw and how The Cleaner has been progressing towards his main target.
