VICTORIAN three-year-old The Dip added the $10,000 SEW Tasmanian Guineas to his growing list of feature wins when he proved too strong or his rivals at Tattersall’s Park) in Hobart tonight (Sunday).
The Glenn Douglas-trained New Zealand bred colt was eased out at the start fro his wide draw (6) but was soon as the pace steadied driver Daryl Douglas sent his charge around the field to assume control.
From there on in the end result was never in doubt although runner-up Willbe Doc faced the breeze for most of the race and really put it to the favourite and then stuck to his guns at the business end of the race.
Nitro Blue enjoyed a cushy run behind the lead and when he eased out to throw out a challenge he loomed as a winning chance for a fleeting moment but had to settle for third.
The Dip is owned and raced by Anderson Racing of which Eric Anderson is manager.
Anderson enjoyed huge success in the early 1990s with Franco Tiger that was trained by Glenn Tippet.
He said he and his brother purchased The Dip in New Zealand for $35,000 and the plan was to take him around the nation in search of all the three-year-old features.
“We’ve started with Tassie and now we’ll head to South Australia and then look at heats of the Victorian Derby,” Anderson said.
