Punters fired the right shot in the opening race at the Ladbrokes Racing Centre in Launceston on Good Friday when Gee Gee Real Deal scored an effortless win in a maiden over 1200 metres.
Gee Gee Real Deal had been placed at her four previous starts this campaign that warranted putters backing the filly in to start the $1.75 favourite.
The Stuart Gandy-trained three-year-old began well from a middle barrier to race outside of the leader Scribbler, that was the clear second elect at $4.60.
When rider Siggy Carr called on the favourite to extend at the top of the home straight the daughter of Wordsmith forged clear and had no trouble fending off the challengers, with Shake Your Tooshy ($31 into $19) working home well to grab second ahead of the Adam Trinder-trained Silent Dreamer ($21).
Gee Gee Real Deal strained a tendon in her nearside foreleg at her first start and was forced off the scene for almost a year.
“This filly looked like having a promising future, but she did a tendon at her first start and we had to tip her out for a lengthy spell,” Gandy said.
“She has done a good job this time in and today she scored a deserving win, given her form going into the race.
“I’m likely to give her a spell now that she’s won a race, but I’ll see how she pulls up and go from there.”
