SEVEN Mile Beach-based trainer Tammy Mollross made a prediction last season that her six-year-old sprinter The Son Shines would win a feature race so she wasn’t too surprised that he emerged triumphant in the Fay’s Jewellers Diamond Bracelet Sprint over 1000m at Tapeta Park Spreyton last Sunday.
The Son Shines was having his second run from a two-month let-up and Mollross was confident the gelding would be competitive.
However she was adamant that the assistance she received from friend and fellow trainer Christie Burt was major contributing factor to the horse’s improved effort.
The Son Shines was allowed to settle at the rear of the eight-horse field on a hot pace set by Turbo Qui.
Rider Eddie Brennen had The Son Shines (Foxhound-My Sunshine) travelling sweetly on the rails to the home turn and was poised to pounce.
Brennen angled his charge off the fence on the home turn and once balanced at the top of the straight The Son Shines unleashed a powerful finish to grab victory over Strike The Tiger in the last stride with The Invincible One over a length away third.
