LIGHTLY raced three-year-old pacer Really Western broke his maiden status in Hobart last Monday night, much to the delight of his trainer Justin Campbell.

Really Western claimed the lead at the top of the home straight and then staved off a determined challenge from Wundababe to defeat that filly by almost a metre with race leader Put Mback two metres astern.

It was a strong effort by Really Western that had to do a bit of work early but had plenty in reserve at the business end of the race.

Campbell admitted he may have been caught napping 100 metres out when he wasn’t too fussed about urging his charge to the line.

“I probably took my eyes off the ball for a moment and when I saw the grey filly (Wundababe) coming at us I got to work on my horse again and to his credit he heard her coming and started to lift again,” Campbell said.

Really Western is by Western Terror from one of the Campbell family’s foundation mares Really Anne that unfortunately died last year as a result of a twisted bowel.
