VICTORIAN apprentice Boris Thornton produced the best performances of his career when he snared five winners on the eight-event program at The TOTE Racing Centre in Launceston last night.
Thornton rode five consecutive winners from races three through to race seven and he almost rode the quadrella when second aboard one of the outsiders, Husna, in the final race on the card.
He began his winning spree aboard the Troy Blacker-trained Just Another Fifty in a maiden plate over 1400m and followed up with a gem, of a ride aboard the Adam Trinder-trained Barkly Boy,
Arguably his best ride was aboard the Stuart Gandy-trained Geegees Soprano that secured an inside run in the home straight to go on and record a comfortable win in a class four handicap to give the gelding three wins from his past four starts.
He then guided odds-on favourite Smoke ‘N’ Whisky ($1.80) to victory in a benchmark 72 handicap (1600m) coming from well back nearing the home turn to score emphatically over tearaway leader Miss It And A Bit.
He closed his winning sequence with another superb ride to secure victory on He’s Applz for John Blacker to give that trainer a double.
Thornton is on loan to Spreyton trainer Adam Trinder for three months but after this most recent haul the 17-year-old is keen to extend his stay in Tasmania.
