TASRACING has pleasure in making available an independent, in-depth report on Tasmania’s thoroughbred breeding industry. The report was presented to the executive committee members of Tasbreeder’s earlier this week.
This report is in line with Tasracing’s Corporate Plan, in particular the Participant Goal and is consistent with the organisation’s statutory obligations in relation to the breeding sector.
Tasracing commissioned well known, international bloodstock expert Mark Player to provide a report that is delivered from a buyer’s perspective.
Player was formerly International Racing Manager of the Hong Kong Jockey Club and is a former CEO of New Zealand Thoroughbred Marketing.
Player’s report examines all aspects of the breeding sector including the performance of the Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale and identifies that micro- and macroeconomic factors are placing pressures on breeders and sales companies.
The report reveals his assessment of the current Tasmanian breeding herd and provides an in-depth look at the stallion register in Tasmania.
The report provides an appraisal of the commerciality of the Tasmanian industry in terms of industry benchmarks and clearly identifies five strategic considerations that must be addressed in order to work towards a sustainable breeding sector in this state.
Player’s report has includes some practical recommendations that breeders could implement at a business level and also offers Tasbreeders an opportunity to examine recommendations that are in line with their own strategic initiatives.
Tasracing is pleased with the report and hopes that it will provide some important insights and some guidance to the breeding sector against a backdrop of a volatile sales environment during what are challenging economic times.
