PROMISING dog Tommy Teeko sounded a warning that he could be a serious chaser when he powered home to win the The Mercury Juvenile over 461 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart.

Tommy Teeko began fairly from box three but could not match the speed of Ready To Rock that bounded away from his rivals to hold a decent break on the home turn.

But when Tommy Teeko knuckled down to his task in the home straight he hauled in the leader and went on to score by two lengths from Ready To Rock with Wongawilli Jimmy over seven lengths astern.

Tommy Teeko (Knocka Norris-Charming Miss) is prepared by Russell Watts and was having his sixth start in the state.

The dog was sent to Watts at the end of last year and he opened his Tasmanian account with a handy second to Big Poppy Jack in a qualifying heat of the Hobart Maiden Thousand series.

He struck trouble at his subsequent outing in a maiden Thousand semi-final but he has gone on to win two of his next four starts.

Last Thursday night Tommy Teeko covered the 461 metres in 26.38s which was comparable to the best of the night of 26.21 recorded by Penny’s Angel in the invitation.
