JUST turned four-year-old Tony Macarony has been a terrific money spinner for the Michael Laugher stable this past year winning four and being placed three times from his 11 outings.
The Mathew Wright-owned gelding began the new season the way he finished the 2011-12 season with a win.
Tony Macarony gave his rivals a pacing lesson in a C2-C3 event over 2090 metres at Tattersall’s Park in Hobart on Sunday night,
With his trainer Michael Laugher in the sulky Tony Macarony settled in the one-out line before cruising to the lead in the home straight.
The gelding was sent out a short priced favourite ($1.60) and never gave his backers any cause for alarm as he cruised to a three-metre win over the fast-finishing Iden Noshot with Brian Buster Brown almost the same margin away third.
Laugher has just returned from a successful trip to Victoria where he campaigned a team of five that included two owned by veteran trainer-owner Wayne Rattray in Karalta Town and Babyitsu.
