CLASSY sprinter Too Many Reds confirmed his status as early favourite for next month’s Newmarket Handicap with a brilliant win in the Eliza Park Handicap over 1100 metres in Launceston on Thursday night.

But despite keeping his unbeaten record this season intact from three outings jockey Brendon McCoull revealed he is still undecided as to which horse he’ll ride in the state’s premier sprint race over 1200 metres on November 18.

McCoull said his other option is the Jason Clifford-trained Loaded Owners that is due to resume racing next week in the Goodwood handicap in Hobart.

However, trainer Charlie Goggin was ecstatic with the win.

“I though t it was a top win because the horse has carried 59 kilograms and had to do a bit at both ends of the race,” Goggin said.

“That was a very good field with a couple of other class horses.”

“His last 200 metres was excellent and I am more than happy with the form he’ll take into the Newmarket,” Goggin said.

Lavaca showed good early speed from a wide gate to cross and lead and Secdolrue also sped away from the barriers to race outside the leader, while McCoull angled his charge into the one-out-one-back position for a nice trail.

Secdolrue forged to the lead turning for home but when McCoull called on Too Many Reds for his effort the gelding quickly raced to the leader.

Secdolrue fought back courageously that forced Too Many reds to dig deeper but the son of Magic Albert was up to the task and hit the line a half-length ahead of Secdolrue that lost no admirers from a Newmarket perspective.

Western Wager worked home well for third but two lengths astern.
